To realise the vision of making Greenland the world’s most physically active nation, the Sports Confederation of Greenland is working with four interconnected focus areas during the strategic period 2024-2027. Together, they form a holistic approach that strengthens sports communities, well-being, and physical activity throughout Greenland.
The next and final strategic period will run from 2028 to 2030, and its content will be discussed with relevant stakeholders during the Sports Conference in 2027.
We work to ensure that significantly more children, young people, and adults become physically active and experience the joy of movement and community, regardless of where they live in Greenland.
This focus area is about creating inclusive opportunities for participation and bringing sport and physical activity closer to everyday life. The initiatives range from street sports and local events to parasport, active workplaces, and national campaigns led by vision ambassadors.
Through initiatives such as:
and broader communication efforts, we create low-threshold opportunities that encourage more people to be active and engage in communities.
Strong associations are the foundation of a strong sporting culture. Therefore, we are committed to improving the quality of sports associations and creating safe and inclusive environments, especially for children and young people.
This focus area includes:
Through these initiatives, we aim to strengthen child-centred approaches, rights, and inclusion by educating coaches and leaders and providing digital learning tools.
At the same time, we focus on volunteering, competency development, events, and clear legal frameworks, ensuring that associations have better opportunities to attract, retain, and develop both volunteers and members.
The Sports Confederation of Greenland is an active partner for municipalities and national stakeholders. We contribute knowledge, process support, and project development in relation to sport, physical activity, and facilities across the country.
Through close partnerships with:
we support coordinated initiatives ranging from local community projects in settlements to national and international sporting activities.
The objective is to ensure sustainable solutions that address local needs while strengthening sport across Greenland.
In addition, we are working on developing the concept of:
which supports more active children during and after school hours.
Long-term development requires a solid foundation of knowledge. Therefore, we work systematically with data, evaluations, and research to ensure that initiatives and decisions are based on evidence of what works within a Greenlandic context.
We are developing common standards for data collection, establishing a knowledge-sharing platform, and collaborating with municipalities and research institutions.
Among other areas, we have conducted analyses and publications related to:
Through a strong connection between data, analysis, insight, and action, we transform knowledge into practical recommendations and real-world solutions that benefit the sporting sector.
The four focus areas are closely connected and form the framework for an ambitious, long-term, and responsible development of sport and physical activity in Greenland.
Together, they support the vision of a healthier, more active, and more connected Greenland, where sport and movement are accessible to everyone.
