Regulatory Framework

A regulatory framework consists of the common rules and provisions that form the foundation for how an organization operates.

In a sports organization such as the Greenland Sports Confederation (GIF), the regulatory framework typically includes:

• Statutes (Constitution and By-laws)
• Guidelines and Policies
• Rules for Operations, Governance, and Finance

The regulatory framework serves as the organization’s governing rulebook. It defines the organization's purpose, how decisions are made, and the rights and responsibilities of its members.

GIF’s Regulatory Framework

The Greenland Sports Confederation's regulatory framework currently consists of four overarching sets of regulations.

These cover, among other things:

• Amateur and Disciplinary Committee – including rules concerning suspension, exclusion, and fair conduct.
• Membership Admission – defining who may be admitted as a member of the sports confederation.
• National Championships – defining the criteria and requirements for national championships.
• Definitions of Sports Clubs and Membership – clarifying what constitutes a sports club and who qualifies as a member.
• Remuneration and Responsibilities – rules governing remuneration for boards within the Greenland Sports Confederation and its member organizations.

Why Are Regulations Important?

The regulatory framework is essential to ensuring that sport in Greenland operates in a transparent, responsible, and democratic manner.

Among other things, the regulations provide:

• Clarity regarding roles and responsibilities within the organization.
• Transparency in decision-making and financial management.
• Equal conditions for all member federations and sports clubs.
• A shared direction for the development of sport in Greenland.

Adaptation and Development

The regulations are continuously reviewed, updated, and approved by GIF’s Representative Assembly to ensure they reflect developments in both society and sport.

This means that the rules are not static but are adapted to new needs, requirements, and opportunities for the benefit of sport throughout Greenland.
