Become a skilled and engaged coach in your sports club

The Greenland Sports Confederation (GIF) offers a Coach Education Programme designed to provide you with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to plan, deliver, and develop training activities within your club.

The programme is practical and participant-focused, combining useful tools, reflection, and experience-sharing to strengthen both your coaching practice and the development of your athletes.


What are the courses About?

The coaching courses provide a thorough understanding of the coaching role and offer practical insights into creating positive training experiences for children, young people, and adults.

Topics include:

  • The coach’s role and responsibilities within the club
  • Planning and structuring training sessions
  • Instruction, feedback, and motivation
  • Collaboration with athletes, parents, and clubs
  • Wellbeing, learning, and athlete development

The course content is based on real-life coaching situations and provides practical tools for addressing common challenges in everyday coaching.


Module 1 – Fundamental coaching skills

Module 1 is designed for new coaches or those with limited coaching experience.

You will learn how to:

  • Understand your role and responsibilities as a coach
  • Plan and deliver structured training sessions
  • Work with different age groups and learning styles
  • Create motivation and a safe, positive training environment

The module places a strong emphasis on reflection and personal development, helping you become more aware of your coaching practice and how you can continue to grow as a coach.


Module 2 – Development and specialization

Module 2 builds on the foundations established in Module 1 and is intended for coaches who wish to further develop their competencies.

Key topics include:

  • Creating a motivating training environment – fostering engagement, enjoyment, and wellbeing
  • Leadership and the coaching role – working with goals, motivation, and team culture
  • Physiology and training – understanding physical development and training principles
  • Injury prevention – preventing injuries and managing athlete wellbeing

The course is based on active participation, dialogue, and practical application, ensuring that the knowledge gained can be used immediately in your coaching environment.
