Performance Agreement 2023-2027

Working Together Towards the Vision of a More Active Greenland

The Sports Confederation of Greenland (GIF) and Naalakkersuisut (the Government of Greenland) have entered into a Performance Agreement for the period 2023-2027.

The agreement provides the framework for cooperation on developing sport in Greenland and strengthening the population’s health, well-being, and sense of community through increased physical activity.

A Shared Responsibility for a Healthier Society

The Performance Agreement sets out common objectives and expectations regarding activities, outcomes, and reporting. At the same time, it ensures a balance between the political priorities of Naalakkersuisut and the strategic goals of the Sports Confederation of Greenland.

Sport and physical activity play a central role in creating a healthier society. Therefore, it is a shared responsibility across public authorities, organizations, businesses, and civil society to provide good opportunities for participation throughout Greenland.

Vision: The World’s Most Physically Active Nation by 2030

The Sports Confederation of Greenland is working towards the vision that Greenland will become the world’s most physically active nation by 2030.

The vision is built around three overall objectives:

  • More citizens should be physically active.
  • More people should participate in active communities.
  • More stakeholders should collaborate across sectors to create sustainable development.

The ambition is to create a society where physical activity is a natural part of life, from childhood through old age.

Strategy and Priority Areas

To achieve this vision, four key priority areas have been identified:

  1. Physical activity for children and young people
  2. Strengthening the culture of volunteering
  3. Increased and more diverse activity development
  4. Facilities that promote physical activity

Across all initiatives, there is a strong focus on competency development, local engagement, and collaboration.

Key Initiatives During the Agreement Period

The Performance Agreement includes a number of priority initiatives designed to deliver tangible results.

Strengthening Volunteering and Collaboration

Efforts are being made to further develop the culture of volunteering and create better conditions for engagement, including partnerships with businesses and public workplaces.

Better Sports Facilities

Analyses of existing and future sports facilities are being carried out to ensure safe and supportive environments for sport throughout Greenland.

Development of Competition Structures

Work is underway to create better conditions for competitions and development within the national sports federations, including the assessment of new competition formats.

Cooperation and Follow-Up

The cooperation between Naalakkersuisut and the Sports Confederation of Greenland is based on ongoing dialogue and regular follow-up through:

  • Annual meetings on shared priorities
  • Quarterly status meetings at the administrative level
  • Annual reporting and submission of financial statements

In addition, specific focus areas are continuously defined through appendices to the agreement.

Creating Movement Together

The Performance Agreement is an important tool for bringing stakeholders together around one shared ambition:

To make sport and physical activity a natural and accessible part of life for everyone in Greenland.
